For Americans, Thanksgiving is the most important holiday in the calendar, bigger than Christmas.
Many may try to get home for the big day, but for those who remain in Hong Kong (and anyone else who wants to join in) there are a number of restaurants offering the celebration meal. In no particular order, here are seven suggestions:
At MyHouse in Wan Chai, chef Asher is putting together a special menu for November 24, featuring recipes from founder Alison Christ’s family. Apart from the US roasted turkey, there will be her dad’s orange and spice pecan stuffing, her mother’s sweet potato casserole, her grandfather’s fresh baked cheddar cheese biscuits, as well as Asher’s corn fritters and garlic roasted potatoes. There will also be apple pie and pumpkin pie for dessert, all for HK$438 per person, and an extra HK$188 for wine pairings.

The Peak Lookout
Celebrate American Thanksgiving with a view at The Peak Lookout for HK$468 per person. The four-course dinner includes a choice of Cobb salad or crab and avocado salad, either cream of pumpkin soup or chestnut soup, roast turkey roulade or roast turkey with all the trimmings, including mashed potato, grilled sweetcorn, garden peas, maple-roasted yam, and cranberry sauce, followed by pecan pie with vanilla ice cream or pumpkin pie with bourbon ice cream.

One very American restaurant is Stone Nullah Tavern, the perfect venue to mark the national holiday. From November 21-27, the restaurant will be serving a feast, so bring an empty stomach. It starts with a seafood platter followed by a choice of garlic butter roasted turkey or Southern fried turkey with savoury black pepper and bourbon gravy. Sides include caramelised onion, apple and cheddar stuffing, and pulled pork rib mac and cheese. Diners can finish with a dessert of either skillet apple crumble or skillet s’mores. The dinner is HK$548 per person. Customers can pay an extra HK$198 for free-flow prosecco, red and white wine and house spirits with mixers, or shell out an extra HK$308 for champagne, craft beer, premium wine and with mixers.

Diners can find a pork-themed a la carte menu at The Salted Pig for Thanksgiving. For starters, there’s the minced pork and turkey meatballs that can be dipped into a cheese fondue, or red snapper soup with toasted sourdough bread. Mains include barbecue pork sloppy Joe, a deep-fried bacon mac and cheeseburger, jambalaya, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. If you still have room for dessert, try the peach cobbler, or sticky banoffee pie.

For a Spanish twist, head to La Paloma in Sai Ying Pun where chef Willy Trullas Moreno teams up with American pastry chef Jason Licker to cook up a creative menu from November 23 to 26. The a la carte menu features barbecued Iberico pork with smoked baby eggplants, beef cheek with foie gras and apples, fish tacos with marinated cabbage, lobster rolls and mini burgers. Sinful desserts include crème Catalan and matcha, and churros sundae, dulce de leche ice cream and salted almond crumble, and profiteroles to name just a few.

Lily Bloom in Lan Kwai Fong has a few options for Thanksgiving from November 21 until December 4. The Family Feast serves five or six people for HK$2,650 in a meal that includes an organic whole American heritage turkey served with giblet gravy and fresh cranberry sauce, with sausage and sage stuffing, roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon, truffled mashed potato, creamed spinach and maple sweet potato mash. For dessert look no further than house-made pumpkin pie. If you can’t manage all of that, try the three-course set dinner for HK$650 per person. The menu features either roasted parsnip potage or Hokkaido scallop tartare, followed by roasted turkey roulade, slow-cooked wagyu or porcini ravioli.
