A motorcyclist in China surprised police after he had a road accident and handed them his driving licence – which showed another man’s name crossed out and his own name added using a pen, mainland media reports.
The man in his 40s, identified only by his surname Cao, had also stuck his photograph on top of the picture of the original licence holder, the news portal Yunnan.cn reported,
However his amateurish efforts at deception failed to fool the eagle-eyed police.
He faces up to 15 days in police detention and a fine of up to 5,000 yuan (HK$5,800) for faking the driving licence in Yunnan province, the report said.
Cao handed the fake licence to police on Tuesday last week after he collided with a taxi while riding his motorcycle in the city Gejiu, the report said.
He told police he had found the licence and had then crossed out the name of the original licence holder with a pen before adding his own name.
He had then stuck his photograph on top of the original.
The birth year of the original licence holder is 1986, meaning the person would have been at least 10 years younger than Cao.
