Chinese suspected motorcycle thief’s great escape … while handcuffed and dressed in prison uniform

A Chinese man suspected of stealing a motorcycle has been rearrested after he fled in handcuffs dressed in a blue prison uniform while helping police to reconstruct his alleged crime, mainland media reports.

Ke Xilong, 21, gave police the slip in Ankang, Shaanxi province, on October 20, after being allowed to go to the toilet on his own during the police investigation, Huashang Daily reported.

He vanished after climbing out of the toilet building and was only arrested on Sunday about 800km away – after being spotted by surveillance cameras at a train station in Wuchang, in Hubei province.

Police were surprised that Ke managed to free himself from the handcuffs to make his escape, the report said.

They were now extending their investigation to try to find out how he managed to escape so easily while in handcuffs and also travel so far before being recaptured.

A lawyer in Shaanxi said the charge Ke had initially faced was not that serious, but he was now likely to receive a heavier sentence from the court, without any chance of probation, after fleeing the crime reconstruction scene while in police detention, the report said.
