Hong Kong menu specials: National Sake Day celebrations, all-you-can-eat roast pig and gourmet pop-up feasts

In celebration of National Sake Day, the New World Millennium Hong Kong hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui will have a sake festival on October 1. Guests can taste more than 200 types of Japanese sake, and enjoy Japanese snacks and traditional entertainment. The entry fee is HK$198, which includes three sake tokens and one snack token, as well as a tasting glass. For more information call 2313 4268. The hotel is also hosting a special sake and Japanese cuisine dinner that evening for HK$1,800 plus 10 per cent, or HK$1,000 upon presentation of the sake festival entry ticket. The meal includes a starter of silver cod roe in vinegar sauce, sea bream sushi, stewed saury with egg, grilled chestnut, and grilled ginkgo with rice stalk; and grilled Spanish mackerel with yuzu. Stone Nullah Tavern in Wan Chai is holding its annual pig roast on September 25. For HK$650, guests can have all-you-can-eat roast pig with a variety of international sauces, plus side dishes such as bacon and scallion potato salad and corn on the cob. Bookings: 3182 1028

The Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Central has announced some pop-up dinners that should be booked as soon as possible, because these events sell out quickly. From October 24 to 26, Isaac McHale from the Clove Club in London will be at Amber restaurant. The event is HK$3,688 plus 10 per cent and includes a champagne cocktail reception with four snacks, and an eight-course dinner with dishes that include chestnut and oyster broth with wild Scottish seaweed and Petrossian caviar; and dry-aged Challans duck served three ways. On November 21 and 22, Virgilio Martinez, chef of Central restaurant in Peru (number four on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list), and Amber chef Richard Ekkebus (number 20 on the list) will collaborate on a four-hands dinner. Angelini at the Kowloon Shangri-La in Tsim Sha Tsui is having a dinner on September 29 featuring the wines of Ceretto in Piedmont. The dinner is HK$1,980 plus 10 per cent and includes a main course of suckling pig with white polenta, green apple and beetroot, paired with the 1964 vintages of the winery’s Barbaresco Riserva Riccardo Ceretto and Barolo Riserva Riccardo Ceretto.
