On average, there is a ransomware attack every eight seconds in Taiwan, with 40 percent targeting personal computers, said Bob Hung, general manager of Trend Micro’s Taiwan Hong Kong Business Unit.
That is the second highest attack rate in the Asia-Pacific region, after Japan, he said.
In the first half of 2016, the number of attacks in Taiwan was four times the number in the same period last year, Hung said.
Major concerns among Taiwan consumers arising from the ransomware threats include losing photo files, spending a lot of money to clean up their computers, and not being able to access important documents, according to Trend Micro.
