Worldwide effort to raise money for earthquake-hit Amatrice by selling town’s classic pasta dish

Italy held a day of mourning today for the almost 300 people who died in the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in the town of Amatrice in the early hours of Wednesday.

Rescuers are still working around the clock trying to find any survivors.

Many restaurants in Italy and around the world are doing their part to raise money for the victims by serving the pasta dish called pasta all’amatriciana, a classic dish from the region where the earthquake hit.

Amatrice was going to hold its 50th annual food festival this weekend. And the recipe pasta all’amatriciana is said to date back over 300 years.

Here in Hong Kong, Jamie’s Italian will be serving this pasta dish from Saturday August 27 to September 2, and for every Amatriciana pasta dish sold, which is priced at HK$180, the restaurant will donate HK$30.

The restaurant’s version is a freshly made pasta cooked in a rich tomato and smoky free-range pancetta sauce with slow-cooked onions, and finished with aged Parmesan.
